Vital Aid has a food distribution program for the poor and the hungry from the Hague community irrespective of nationality and background. Deserving people from all walks of life are entitled to a weekly supply of a healthy food packet as shown in the box below.
Who benefits
The program was as a result of the realisation that many people cannot afford to have daily meals and above all a balanced diet. This is because of the economic hardship and social problems encountered by many in our society today.
It is very difficult for example for the unemployed, people on unemployment benefit (uitkering), failed asylum seekers, people on heavy debts and the homeless to prioritise buying food (nutritious) over other economic needs. In most cases, it has occurred that women are the most vulnerable to hunger; examples are those that are breastfeeding, those under immigration procedure, financial crisis and single mothers.
VAF also brings food to those beneficiaries who are unable to come to the centre because of various reasons mainly physical incapabilities, illness, the elderly and nursing mothers.
